I started NativeStart back in 2011 as an Arabic school and community organization. NativeStart which is run by just over 8 volunteers is based in Warrington; it provides Arabic lessons, multi-sport activities for the youth and helps fundraising money for charities. The aim of the Arabic school is to break the communication barrier between British born Arabs and their parents; this means that these British born Arabs would be able to understand their parents’ mother tongue and culture. As well as being the director of NativeStart, I also teach Arabic to 30 young people on the weekend. www.nativestart.com
Working at Priestley College, has helped me to gain wider experience in the field of technology and teaching in general. My role is to assist IT teachers and support year 2 BTEC National Diploma students in lesson through working with them in classroom and providing one-to-one support to those who are struggling or behind with their work. In addition, I do other tasks to help students consolidate the information that they have learned. For example, for one of the course modules I was asked to build a small computer network and demonstrate how it works as well as how networks are being monitored to students. I was also asked to lead a project one lesson a week to teach computer animation using Adobe Flash. Responsibilities: • Teach computer animation using Adobe Flash - Design weekly lessons & Tutorials • Assist teachers in classroom • Demonstration lesson concepts to students • One-to-one student support
Working for this company has helped me to know more about myself and develop myself in different areas to be able to work and communicate better with people in work, as well as understand my potentials. I worked in a team of 16 people: 6 web developers, 7 SEO copyrighters, 2 sales persons and the CEO. I had an all-rounded and diverse experience in web development while working with colleagues who came from different backgrounds and dealing with different clients. I gained a year’s experience in the web development industry and developed skills in PHP, CSS, jQuery, Wordpress, Magneto, SEO and HTML.

Working with young people from different ethnic groups and backgrounds as a sports leader and coach has considerably improved my confidence and organisation skills. I can confidently say that I now have a wider understanding of professionalism, responsibility and leadership.

As this was my first job, it was an excellent experience for me as I obtained good team working and communication skills through working with different members of staff and children. I recall how stressful it was working with kids who weren’t as keen in terms of doing their work, but it trained me to remain calm under pressure as well as improving my listening and decision making skills. Simply spending time to understand their mentality and points of view helped me realise my caring side.

At 14, I moved from Al-Sawagh Village, Yemen to Warrington, UK. I didn’t speak any English at that time. I started my education and learning to speak English language from year 9 at Penketh High School, Warrington. I struggled adapting and to speak English in school but I still achieved eight GCSEs with A – C grades.
